The Darcy School

Challenge:

The Darcy School is a private K-5 elementary school that was operating from a rented, previously closed school facility.  Darcy’s academic excellence had created an extremely crowded environment for both students and faculty.  The Darcy School was seeking a permanent, expandable school property to ensure its growth to accommodate its academic excellence and goal of achieving K-8 accreditation.

Actions Taken:

As we began the property/facility search, it became clear to both NAI James E. Hanson and the well meaning Darcy Board members that there was an immediate need for a sizable, multi-million dollar capital raising campaign since our purchase price was in excess of $5,000,000.  Shortly afterward, we identified a perfect property that could be converted into a school facility and went under contract to purchase a 16-acre property for $6,500,000 in Chatham (Morris County) New Jersey.

While the Darcy School was raising capital, NAI James E. Hanson introduced a them to a local attorney, engineer and architect to obtain zoning approvals and meet other contractual commitments.

Results:

The Capital Campaign was an extraordinary success since the Darcy Board had a specific school campus property not only under contract, but also fully approved for its intended use as a school.

The Darcy School is now a fully accredited K-8 private elementary school with a waiting list for students’ admittance.  In addition to the $6,500,000 million purchase price, Darcy raised an additional $2,000,000 for conversion improvements.

NAI James E. Hanson showed the Darcy School Board members in excess of 80 properties over 2½ years and we all learned a little bit more about what it would take to make a deal happen from each and every property we toured.
