Peter O. Hanson Of NAI James E. Hanson Awarded NAIOP Lifetime Achievement Award

-Hanson honored for 50 years of industry service and accomplishments -

HACKENSACK, N.J. MAY 18, 2010 - Peter O. Hanson, SIOR, Chairman of NAI James E. Hanson, was bestowed with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Professionals (NAIOP). The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has a distinguished and longstanding record of service to the commercial real estate industry and community, as well as for their significant personal accomplishments. Throughout his illustrious 50-year career, Hanson has defined himself for his accomplishments, leadership and most significantly, his integrity. The firm he continues to be active in, NAI Hanson, is now entering its 56th year of service and is in its 3rd generation of family leadership.

"While this award is a wonderful honor and I accept it very proudly, the people that are truly deserving of this award are the outstanding professionals I have had the pleasure of working with at NAI Hanson for the past 50 years," stated Peter Hanson. "The greatest honor for me personally is the privilege of working with the men and women of NAI Hanson, many of whom have been with the company for decades. It is their commitment to excellence, hard work and high standards of ethics that continues to inspire and motivate me each and every day."

James E. Hanson, Peter's father, founded the company in Hackensack in 1955, along with 10 sales associates concentrating on industrial development and brokerage. His sons Peter, Jon and Donald joined the firm in 1959 to specialize in Northern New Jersey industrial property sales. Over the next 20 years, they expanded the company into multiple disciplines, including office and retail leasing, investment sales and property management. In 1980, with another generation ready to enter the business, the brothers wisely created separate entities, Jon heading up The Hampshire Companies, Donald leading Roebling Investment Company and Peter retaining leadership of James E. Hanson, Inc.

In 1981, Peter led the firm in its partnership with New America International, now known as NAI Global. Peter's son, Bill, took the helm as president in 1993. He continues his father's management style of encouraging and valuing entrepreneurialism. The firm now employs 50+ people who work in the Parsippany and Clark offices, as well as the flagship Hackensack office. In addition to his dedication to Hanson's clients and New Jersey roots, Peter gives plenty of himself to individuals in the community. In the four years between his 1955 graduation from Colgate University with a bachelor's degree in economics and joining his father's firm, Peter served as a captain and pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He serves on the board of directors for the Salvation Army and has served on the board of governors for the Hackensack University Medical Center since 1998. He has also volunteered fundraising efforts for the Council for Boy Scouts of America since 1989, also serving on the senior council from 1970 to 1976. The Boy Scouts organization honored him with the William H. Spurgeon Award in 1973.

Professionally, Mr. Hanson has more than 50 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, working with clients on office, industrial, hotel and retail projects across the United States. As a broker, advisor and investor, he has shared his expertise through hundreds of transactions, both providing real estate services and acting on behalf of investor clients in the acquisition, development and marketing of investment properties. Over the years, he has served some of the largest corporations and developers in the United States, including Hyatt Regency, Everet Mall Shopping Center, General Motors Parts Warehouse, Wayne Towne Shopping Center and Westloop Shopping Center.

In addition to serving as director of the Meridian family of REITs for 11 years, he has also been a long-time NAI Global advisory board member and board of directors member and was chairman of NAI Global Members Leadership Board in 1985. Mr. Hanson has also served as chairman of Net Lease Capital Advisors, Inc.; board of directors member, executive committee member and International President for the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors; an executive committee member and president of the Industrial & Office Brokers of the New York Metropolitan Area; a board of directors member and executive committee member of the National Association of Realtors; associate board member for United Jersey Bank; board of directors member, district vice president, strategic planning committee chairman, building advisory vice chairman, board jurisdiction committee member and executive committee member for the New Jersey Association of Realtors; and board of directors member, vice president, president and treasurer for the Central Bergen Board of Realtors. In addition, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors honored Peter with the Howell Watson Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993, and in the same year, the Central Bergen Board of Realtors named him Realtor of the Year. And in 2008, NAI Global honored Peter with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his dedication and service to the NAI Global network.
